Ramiro Davaro-Comas
Artist Statement:
Ramiro Davaro-Comas was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and has travelled back and forth between Buenos Aires and Boston all his life. He is an illustrator and painter and his work is influenced by his travels, politics, media’s portrayal of human interaction, anthropological studies and cultural exposure. Most of his work is a direct statement and critique of contemporary happenings, and a subtle yet blatant monologue about the anthropological issue at hand. Davaro-Comas’ goal as an artist is to create work that invigorates, stimulates and invites viewers to not only dissect his work in their head, but to argue and discuss it with people. His goal is to inform the viewer and have them see certain points of view that they may otherwise not be exposed to and much of it resonates deeply with the viewer because it is so barefaced and blatant.
Davaro-Comas mainly works with spray paint, acrylic, pen& ink, watercolor and photography. He consciously employs techniques which are raw and aggressive, and these techniques are tied into the instruments he uses to paint. Because much of his work is of urban decent and background, he uses urban techniques and items like spray paint and found objects to help him develop his finished piece.
Education:
B.S in Event Management, May 2009
Isenberg School of Management, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA, USA
Artist Residencies:
Takt Kunstprojektraum, Berlin Germany, July-September 2012
GO-GO Artist Residency, Amsterdam, Netherlands, October 2012
